“Gibson Custom is proud to announce the introduction of a new King of the Blues Lucille guitar honoring the great B.B. King. This special limited edition run of 150 guitars will be sold exclusively through Guitar Center in conjunction with Guitarmageddon, a blues guitar talent search to be staged at the Chicago House of Blues. King will appear in concert on June 8 as part of the Grand Finals.

Born Riley B. King, B.B. is generally recognized as the leader of modern blues. A native of Indianola, Mississippi, the former cotton picker moved to Memphis in the 1940s where he honed his guitar chops while also working as a disc jockey for radio station WDIA. He gained national prominence in the early 1950s with a string of hits beginning with the R&B smash, “Three O’Clock Blues.” Since King’s arrival on the music scene, virtually every electric guitarist who has held an instrument in their hands has been influenced by him directly or indirectly. In 1987, King was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received a Lifetime Achievement award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. King has also been recognized for his efforts in preserving and promoting America’s traditional arts, receiving the National Medal of Arts in 1990 and Kennedy Center Honors in 1995. In 2005, a handful of the artists who have been inspired by King appeared on his critically acclaimed album, 80. Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Billy Gibbons, Roger Daltry, and Mark Knopfler were just a few of the artists who paid tribute to King.

This stunning new Custom Shop Lucille features gold 490R and 490T Humbucker pickups, pearl block inlay on the fingerboard, and an engraved pickguard with the “King of the Blues” logo. Each King of the Blues Lucille will carry an engraved pearl plate with the production number. A certificate of authenticity signed by King himself will be issued with each instrument.”

This model is pretty close to impossible to find now. They only made 150 of these and they are long sold out. This one plays and sounds terrific. TP-6 was replaced with a standard tailpiece. This guitar looks to have been only strummed a handfull of times. Collector grade, super clean, super nice, and only 150 made. Includes its special edition BB King Gibson hard shell case.  Super cool and a solid investment.
